Suggested Formative or Summative Assessment
Summative Assessment: Cultural Mandala
What is a mandala? The word mandala is from the original Indian (India) language of Sanskrit for “circle,” however a mandala is much more than a simple shape. It represents wholeness and can be seen as a model of life itself. Life is formed and directed by your birth culture. A circular shape of the mandala will be used to represent culture.
Making the Mandala
*In school, you will create a circle that is divided into eight equal parts.
*In each of the eight sections using symbols you will illustrate the eight essential elements of culture. You will need to consider what symbols represent YOU.
*All illustrations will be hand-drawn or traced. No printing off the computer
*Illustrations will be completed in color
*No words or letters are allowed
