Smokeless Tobacco: Past, Present, and Me
The Gilbert Stuart Museum houses the FIRST snuff mill in the colonies. At this station, students learned about the dangers of smokeless tobacco, in particular, snuff. With the help of Mr. Scott, the health teacher, students participated in an activity to show how it feels to breathe when there is tar in the lungs. Students breathed through a straw first, and then tried it with a balloon. This showed the students how hard it was to breathe with "tar" in their lungs. Lastly, students learned about the history of snuff and about snuff today. The take-away message: never use snuff because it is bad for your lungs. -Alyssa, Kylie, Crisanny, and Chrismayri
