Exploring the Philippines
At each school, art gallery, and event we were greeted with smiles, banners, balloons and even the key to the city (thank you, Mandaluyoung City!). I will miss the polite greetings from students (Good morning, visitors), the assemblies in our honor, and the group photos to document the gathering. This special treatment was a constant reminder of how teachers are valued in the Philippines and my role as “ambassador” from Rhode Island.

Transatlantic Outreach Program through the Goethe Institut
I had the honor of being chosen to travel to Germany for 2 weeks along with 14 other educators. This opportunity was designed to teach North American educators about post-World War II Germany. Many educators teach about WWII but few address more contemporary issues. During this short but intense experience, we learned about the challenges of meeting the needs of 1.3 million new refugees, met with contemporary witnesses to help us understand life during the Cold War and the impact of the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, and toured many, many historical sites. Each evening ended with delicious food and great conversation.

Science at Night and other Unexpected Surprises
From May 19-23, 2016, I assisted scientists from the University of Rhode Island out on the Research Vessel Endeavor. I was chosen to participate in the Teacher-at-Sea program. Although nervous, I was excited to go to sea and learn new skills. I "brought" my students along for the ride through my blog and Instagram.

Exploring Japan
In the spring of 2014 I had the honor of being chosen to travel to Japan for 3 weeks. I was selected, along with 9 other middle school and high school teachers, by the Japan Society in New York City to attend the 2014 Educators’ Trip to Japan. This program was designed to immerse teachers in the culture of Japan while educating them on the history of this nation. I was selected from an applicant pool of over 300 teachers. The program was overseen by Ms. Kazuko Minamoto and Mr. Jeffrey Miller of the Japan Society. Learn more about my many experiences while travelling in Japan.
