Snuff Mill and Grist Mill Tour
At the Gilbert Stuart Museum, there are two types of mills: snuff mill and grist mill. The grist mill grinds corn and the snuff mill grinds dried tobacco. This snuff mill grinds tobacco into snuff and the snuff provided money to colonists. The snuff mill was built by Gilbert Stuarts's father in 1750 and it was the first snuff mill built in the colonies. Mr. Wertz, museum docent, provided a dynamic tour of both mills.
